Our Staff

Our staff is largely volunteer. We often have 35 or more teenagers that help keep our program running. These teenagers are selected from Springfield area high school leadership groups.

Lelia Zsiga-Hanson

Omar Mendez Canchola

Teresa Nohrenberg

Lelia was once a Safety Town teen volunteer! Since then, she has stayed in touch and volunteered with the program as an adult too! When asked if she would be interested in being on the Safety Town staff, she jumped at the chance!

Lelia has been working in the Springfield district as an elementary classroom teacher since getting her teaching license  and, for the last two years, has run the ELL programs at both Yolanda Elementary and Briggs Middle Schools. When not teaching or running Safety Town, Lelia spends time with her husband, family, and sweet cats! She also enjoys crafting and creating beautiful things to share with others!

We are excited to have Omar join the Safety Town staff this year! Omar brings a passion for teaching and keeping kids safe! Omar has been working in our district as an educational assistant in our ELL program while simultaneously working on his teaching degree and license! Balancing these two demanding tasks and family has been very time-consuming, and he has met this challenge head-on! Now that he has checked these off his list, he is ready to try something new!

Teresa is a member of the Springfield Kiwanis. She is a CPA and LLC. She is also our liaison and the woman behind the scenes. If something needs to be fixed, you can be sure that Teresa was the one to see that it was accomplished. This is Teresa's 35th year with the program .

The Springfield Kiwanis are part of a global organization that is dedicated to changing the world, one child  and one community at a time. The Kiwanis are accepting new members. Contact us for more information.
